Is Fall the New New Year?

Wall Street Journal, Sept. 2016

Wall Street Journal, Sept. 2016

Okay, admit it. Are you one of those people who when fall rolls in, the familiar back-to-school mindset prompts you to swing into the back-to-business, “wrap up the year” mode? Well, I’ll admit it. Summer encouraged me to take a hiatus, just like some of your favorite TV shows. We took a break from writing our Influential Insights during the sunny season, not to spend the summer beach basking. Okay, we played a little on the beaches of the Pacific in California and the gulf of Mexico in FL. Throughout most of the summer we were prepping for the launch of the Collaboration of Brilliant Entrepreneurs, the premiere coaching program you’ve read about in our previous newsletters.

I am excited to let you know the COBE kickoff workshop launched in Los Angeles on October 14th. Our Influential Insights readers know that we’ve been developing this program for the past two years. We are ecstatic to share with you the outcome expressed by our clients after the first workshop on our website: www.COBECompany.com

Yes, the fourth quarter has debuted. Ah, but not so fast. What if the fall season marks a new beginning? A new you with a new look and a new mindset, a wedding, perhaps? This season could be your new January.

According to the Wall Street Journal, career development and education is up 30% in the fall. Gym memberships increased by 30% last September at the Equinox gyms. Sounds like January when we make resolutions to get fit and hit the treadmill. Did you know that even “I do” increases with 39% of weddings taking place during the fall?

Now, back to you. Are you are feeling the urge to plan, organize and set goals when the leaves start changing colors? Autumn is responsible for those actions, too, according to the WSJ article.

I can’t take credit for any of this knowledge, or research, when we decided to launch the Collaboration of Brilliant Entrepreneurs in the fall. Since COBE is a quarterly program, we decided October is a good month to start the year-end wrap up with visions—not of sugar plums, but improvements we want to make before 2016 disappears and ignites January 2017.

The article reported that improvements are 69% easier to achieve in the fall than New Year’s resolutions. Why is that? First, New Year’s resolutions are more like a wish list. There are too many to achieve in a decade! Second, we say the goals we want to accomplish without any thought as to how to drop those extra holiday pounds or make that extra million. No wonder people claim their resolutions didn’t work. Without the “how,” can anyone actualize their goals and dreams?

COBE’s progressive processes with accountability, timelines and actionable implementation are designed to achieve life and business transformations. You can start by taking advantage of this New Habits exercise:

  • Make a list of the improvements and goals you want make a reality one year from today, personally and professionally.
  • Place check marks to prioritize each goal. Then number them in or the order of importance over the next 90 days.
  • Beside each goal write the specific “how” actions you will take over the next 90 days to make measurable progress. The “how” is essential in making the process work for you. Keep this practice up every 90 days and you will see your visions become realities.
If you would like additional processes to position the Fall/New Year to your advantage over the next quarter, visit our website www.COBECompany.com. ‘Tis the season for your growth transformation!
Stay tuned!
